A message from N6SIX

Thank you for visiting the San Diego Six Shooters Amateur Radio Club web site.  I hope you find this site enjoyable as well as informative.  Please feel free to provide us with your feedback by signing the guest book.  Your suggestions are always welcomed.

Since our inception in April 2001, we have seen a remarkable change in the landscape of amatuer radio here in San Diego County.  Activity on 6 meters was limited for the most part to SSB for rare openings and contests.  While there were a few repeaters in the area, FM activity was nearly non-existent.

But a few of us discovered the wonderful characteristics of 6 meters for local communications, and formed the core group of operators that would later become The San Diego Six Shooters ARC.  Our goal was a simple one:  Promote all modes of operations on 6 meters to ANYONE who would listen.

And as we remained active on SIX, more and more came to see what it was about, and a few even agreed, and our group began to grow.  We started a "simplex net" and we were amazed at how many would participate week after week.  I remember how exciting it was when we had our first "DX" check-in, and how that only fueled more interest in what we were doing.

Today, we meet monthly, and that "simplex net" is now held on a linked 6 meter/900MHz repeater system, open to all who wish to participate throughout all of Southern Californina as well as Las Vegas, Nevada.  We  try to help anyone who wants to become active on six meters by providing answers to questions, or help in setting up their stations.

We'll never be the BIGGEST club in the area....but that's not what we are about, anyway.  We'll strive to be the BEST, though.  Our activities and discussions cover ALL aspects of amateur radio... 6 meters is just our common thread.

So, thanks, once again, for stopping by.  I hope to hear YOU on SIX!

What it means to become a Six Shooter

Why join the San Diego Six Shooters? What's the big deal?

When stepping back and looking at the San Diego Six Shooters from the outside, those are questions that may come to mind. We aren't the BIGGEST club in the area and we don't OWN any repeaters.

Those observations certainly are true. But joining the Six Shooters is a choice we all make for one reason or another. It seems that those who have joined this club are interested in a refreshing approach to amateur radio. Our group is quite laid back, and our meetings , while lacking the ceremony of this officer's report or the reading of the minutes, are always enjoyable, informative, and entertaining.

We are always introducing new ideas, and revisiting old ones. By doing this, we find that our members are more active on the air, and isn't that really what this is all about? New amateur radio operators are particularly drawn to us, and we view that as a compliment. We want their first amateur radio experiences to be a positive one, because negative first experiences are where we lose them.

If this sounds right for you, then why not join us? We'd be honored to have YOU as a SIX SHOOTER.

Credits

The rapid growth and emergence of the San Diego Six Shooters ARC has not been all my doing. It is the result of hard work and dedication by all of our members.

Member participation in events such as club sponsored nets and meetings are at an unusually high level, making the Six Shooters very visible within the local amateur radio community. I want to thank everyone for their membership and participation.

I'd especicially like to thank the following individuals for their personal efforts for the San Diego Six Shooter Amateur Radio Club:

Gary Richardson, N6LRV, Vice President

Gary is a FOUNDING MEMBER of the San Diego Six Shooters. Since day 1 Gary has been a driving force for this club. His technical expertise in many areas has proven to be quite helpful and he has, on many occassions, shared his knowledge with club members, both at club meetings and on a one-on-one basis.

Errol Bruce, KE6CBJ, Treasurer

Errol became a San Diego Six Shooter in 2003, but was a regular net participant well before then. His membership in the club has made us a stronger organization. Once Errol stepped into the role of Treasurer, he brought his experience and knowledge to the table and has really helped strengthen the administrative side of the club.

Mike Lebo, N6IEF

Mike is a LIFETIME MEMBER of the San Diego Six Shooters and is the Net Control Operator for the San Diego Six Shooter SSB Net. Mike has also dedicated many hours of his personal time to work on club related projects such as Field Day. His time and efforts are truly appreciated.

Mike Brass, KG6WLS

Mike joined the San Diego Six Shooters in December 2004. Since then, he has been a remarkably active member. He has shared many ideas and projects at club meetings and has made submissions for publication when we tried to have a club newsletter. Mike is also the Net Control Operator for the San Diego Six Shooter "Shoot-Out" on a local 6 meter repeater. He does an outstanding job and he is a valuable team player.
